The following celebrations are being held during the holiday:
RED, WHITE AND BLUE VETERANS CELEBRATION: 6:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Columbia County Government Complex, 640 Ronald Reagan Drive, Evans. The event will include performances by the U.S. Army Signal Corps Band, Lakeside High School's Rifle Drill Team, a flag-raising, parade and fireworks display. Special guests will include Maj. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE: 1 p.m. Saturday, beginning at the intersection of Park Avenue and Union Street, proceeding down Park Avenue to Laurens Street and ending at Laurens Street and Edgefield Avenue in Aiken. There will be an F-16 flyover, a Bradley tank, clowns, race carts, the Fort Jackson Victory Band and more. The free parade is sponsored by the Aiken Marine Corps League.
MEMORIAL WEEKEND PROGRAM: 9 a.m. Saturday, at Veterans Park in Barnwell, S.C. The program, sponsored by Vietnam Veterans of America, will include U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, S.C. Rep. Lonnie Hosey, and city and county officials. The guest speaker will be John Gustafson, a helicopter gunner during the Vietnam War. MEMORIAL DAY RIDE FOR HOSPITALIZED VETERANS: 2 p.m. Sunday, Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center Uptown Division, 1 Freedom Way. Antique cars and all types of motorcycles are welcome. The ride will end at the VA Medical Center, Downtown Division. The entry fee is one gift for a hospitalized veteran. A $10 cash donation will be accepted in lieu of a gift. The program will feature wreath displays, special speakers, color guards from American Legion Post 63, local high school JROTC units and Fort Gordon.
