AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Albert Lee Gaines, age 77, of Augusta, entered into rest on Tuesday morning, May 24, 2005, at Doctor's Hospital. A native of Shelby County, Ky., he had resided in the Augusta area for the past 40 years. Mr. Gaines had retired from the U.S. Army in October of 1981, after 25+ years as an E-8, SFC. An avid flight enthusiast, he had received his Commercial License as a Crop Duster at the age of 18 and continued to pursue his flying hobby through the owning of his own Cherokee 180 that he flew out of Daniel Field for many years. His family will remember his fondness of road trips to include his favorite journey out west, to see the painted desert. He is survived by his son, Michael Gaines and his wife, Diane, Martinez; one sister, Kathleen Allen, Louisville, Ky.; one granddaughter, Michelle Johnson and her husband, Rob, Evans; a great-grandson, Gaines Johnson and his longtime companion of 20+ years, Mi Sharp, Martinez. Funeral services wil l be held at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville, with Full Military Honors accorded by the Fort Gordon Ceremonial Detachment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1899 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
