Fulcher Hagler is moving up in the downtown

Fulcher Hagler LLP is moving up in the world, seven floors up.

In January 2006, the 59-year-old law firm will head out of a three-building complex in Olde Town and onto the entire seventh floor of the Augusta Riverfront Center.

"We remain committed to downtown Augusta and believe it will continue to be the business center of the Central Savannah River Area," stated a media release from Fulcher Hagler.

The firm's current buildings, which total 12,750 square feet and front Greene, Telfair and Fifth streets, sit on a five-parcel, 1.23-acre site.

The growth of the company, which employs 52, prompted the decision to move into the 24,000-square-foot top floor of the River- front Center, on 10th Street at Riverwalk Augusta.

Fulcher Hagler has been based in its current facilities since 1962, and ever since then has completed several expansions on the properties to keep up with the firm's growth.

But eventually the time came to look for a new place to do business.

"Believing it desirable to consolidate our operations under one roof, we began examining available options for relocation," the company's release stated.

Fulcher Hagler's decision represents a major gain for the office building.

Other tenants of the downtown office space include the Morris Museum of Art, Citigroup and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"That's a significant lease for the building. We're about 95 percent occupied (including the Fulcher lease)," said Don Allen, of Batson-Cook Development Co., which manages and leases the property.

The previous seventh-floor tenant was SouthTrust Corp., which was purchased by Wachovia Corp. last year.

The Riverfront Center is one of the best office spaces in Augusta and will serve Fulcher Hagler well, Mr. Allen said.

"It has on-site parking, it's very secure and it's adjacent to the Radisson Riverfront Hotel Augusta and the Country Suites and convention center," he said.

A buyer has yet to be found for Fulcher Hagler's property at 507 Telfair St.

The Telfair Street location has an asking price of $1.4 million.
