Seniors calendar



The Seniors Calendar lists items of interest to senior citizens. Call the service agencies for information. To list your activity, write to Seniors Calendar, The Augusta Chronicle, P.O. ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL SENIOR ADVANTAGE

St. Joseph Hospital offers a program for people 50 and older. Senior Advantage offers bingo, canasta, health and educational programs. $10 membership fee per year; 481-7232.

OSTEOPOROSIS AWARENESS AND PREVENTION PROGRAM: Noon to 1 p.m. Thursday; St. Joseph Hospital, 2260 Wrightsboro Road; Dr. Albert Carr discusses ways to combat bone loss; $5, lunch provided.

ST. JOSEPH CENTER FOR HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CARE

DISCOVERY: 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Pastoral Care Library, second floor, St. Joseph Hospital, 2260 Wrightsboro Road; support group for those who have lost a loved one; 729-6021.

BOOK CLUB: 7 p.m. third Thursdays; St. Joseph Home Health Services, Daniel Village shopping center; for anyone interested in discussion of issues related to loss, grief, end-of-life care; bereaved individuals, caregivers, health-care workers, hospice volunteers urged to attend; 729-6021.

WIDOW/WIDOWER SUPPER: 6:30 p.m. second Tuesdays, Piccadilly, Augusta Mall; 6:30 p.m. second Mondays, Shoney's, Whiskey Road, Aiken; Dutch-treat meal for bereaved spouses; 729-6021.

SPECIAL EVENTS

AARP SENIOR EMPLOYMENT: Jobs and training for workers are available for residents of Richmond, McDuffie, Columbia, Lincoln and Wilkes counties who are older than 55; 722-4700.

SENIOR WHEELS USA: Power wheelchairs to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost if they qualify (for those who cannot walk or self-propel in a standard wheelchair); (800) 246-6010.
