ATHENS, Ga. - Top-seeded Georgia beat in-state rival Georgia Tech 8-1 Saturday to advance to the championship round of the NCAA softball regional.
Georgia and Georgia Tech will play again Sunday at noon for the regional championship.
After losing to Georgia Saturday, Georgia Tech beat Kansas 5-2 in an elimination later Saturday to advance to the championship round. If Tech wins the first game Sunday, a second game would follow. Georgia, undefeated in the regional, needs only one win.
Michelle Greene led Georgia (53-13) by allowing only two hits and one run in five innings. Greene improved to 25-3.
"We had some clutch RBIs and hit some hard ground balls," said Georgia coach Lu Harris-Champer. "Im proud of the way we pitched and Im proud of the way the defense played."
Georgia now leads the series with Tech 13-4.
