Barberitos opens second location

Barberitos Southwestern Grille & Cantina has expanded into a second Augusta location, across from the Regal Augusta Exchange 20 theater at 1151 Agerton Lane. The restaurant, which is in the space formerly occupied by Anything Audio, will serve the same made-to-order burritos, tacos, and quesadillas as the one in Daniel Village. Co-owner Robert Moak said the success of that location, which opened in August 2003, spurred plans for an expansion that will eventually include Evans.

"We wanted to feel out the market, and it's done well, so we're going to go to a bigger location," he said. "With the traffic over there, that's the biggest location in Augusta right now."

The new space is slightly larger than the first - 2,100 square feet compared with 1,600 in Daniel Village - and will be outfitted with booths instead of tables. Hours of operation might change depending on demand.

"We'll open at 11 a.m., but we'll stay open and see how the traffic goes, and stay open as long as it warrants," Mr. Moak said. "Typically, (Barberitos closes) at 10 p.m., but there's one in Buckhead that stays open until 3 a.m. I'd be happy with staying open to midnight."
