DUBLIN, Ireland - Colin Farrell offered a loving farewell, peppered with jokes, at his grandfather's funeral.
"Granddad would never curse, so it's fitting that I should now be standing in front of you today," Farrell quipped Monday at the funeral Mass of Jimmy Monaghan, 89, who died Thursday.
Farrell, delivering an oration to more than 100 mourners inside the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in the Drimnagh district of Dublin, described his grandfather as the "most beautiful of men."
He read a poem he'd written - "in case the whole acting thing doesn't work out" - in tribute to Monaghan, "the truest father, the greatest man, the one and only 'Gentleman Jim.'"
Screen credits for Farrell, 28, include "Alexander," "The Recruit," "Minority Report" and "Tigerland."

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - Oprah Winfrey rolled out the carpet for a lavish tribute to pioneering black women, then strolled it herself in a red Vera Wang ball gown.
Guests including Usher, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were on hand for the ball Saturday night at the seaside Bacara Resort and Spa.
The talk-show host joked with friends and praised the 25 honorees, including Coretta Scott King, Diana Ross, Maya Angelou and Cicely Tyson.
"These are women who, when I was growing up, made a difference for me," Winfrey told reporters. "The first time I saw Diana Ross and the Supremes on 'The Ed Sullivan Show,' it changed my life."
Winfrey also linked the older black stars with their younger counterparts in a more intimate gathering Friday night at her Montecito home.
"There was nobody hating on nobody," said Patti LaBelle, who attended the party along with Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys.
Others at Saturday's bash included Gladys Knight, Halle Berry, Ashanti and California first lady Maria Shriver.
Winfrey said it was a no-brainer to host her tribute in Santa Barbara.
"If you're going to have it, it might as well be in paradise," she said.

CANNES, France (AP) - Charlotte Rampling has some advice for the hot-tempered: If you ever feel the urge to throw a glass of wine in someone's face, think twice.
The 58th Cannes festival opened last week with the debut of "Lemming," which stars the 59-year-old British actress.
Rampling plays a tortured, volatile woman who has spent years suffering at the hands of her creepy, unfaithful husband played by Andre Dussollier.
In one hilarious dinner scene, she spirals out of control, bluntly remarking to her hosts that they were late because her husband was entertaining a prostitute. Eventually, she tosses a glass of red wine in his face.
The scene took 18 takes to get right.
"I couldn't do it," Rampling said. "I kept missing him. I don't recommend it as a thing to do unless you're a very good shot."

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Electric guitar pioneer Les Paul was among 14 people inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame this year.
Paul invented the solid body electric guitar in 1946, and his Gibson Guitar Corp. model is one of the best-selling instruments in the industry.
The Wisconsin native, who turns 90 on June 9, is widely renowned for his recording techniques. A birthday celebration called "All for Paul" will be held at New York's Carnegie Hall on June 19.
Other inventors inducted Saturday included Dr. Alec Jeffreys, who invented genetic fingerprinting, and Robert Gundlach, who has earned more than 150 patents and invented the modern photocopier.
The hall was founded in 1973 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the National Council of Intellectual Property Law Associations.
It accepts nominations on its Web site but inductees are selected by a committee including leaders in scientific and technical fields. There are 235 inductees in the hall of fame.

CANNES, France (AP) - Tommy Lee Jones is showing his first feature-length movie at Cannes, but the Oscar-winning actor won't be eligible for a competition for first-time directors.
Jones and two other filmmakers were disqualified from the "Camera d'Or" contest because they have already directed a TV movie, a Cannes spokesman said, confirming a report in The Hollywood Reporter.
However, the film will stay in the running for Cannes' top honor, the Palme d'Or. The festival, which opened last week, runs through May 22.
The "Men in Black" star also appears in his new movie, "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada," playing a Texan ranch foreman who kidnaps a border patrolman and takes him into Mexico.
