Student parkers are menace

In response to the May 12 article about Evans High School students parking in Evanston ("Students could lose street parking rights"): I am angered at Principal Don Brigdon's response about the parking in our neighborhood: "It's not too many of them parking out there ... and it's enough to aggravate these neighborhood folks."

Maybe Principal Brigdon's definition of "too many" is different than mine, but I find that 40-50 cars a day parked in our neighborhood by Evans High students to be "too many."

The students block our driveways, litter our streets and loiter before and after school. Sometimes they will begin to show up as early as 6:30 a.m., and sit in their cars blaring their music. It has even become a safety issue when the buses picking up younger schoolchildren can not get through because of the streets being lined on both sides with cars. Don't even get me started on the speeding.

It has even escalated to the point where there have been fights that have spilled over from the school into our neighborhood. I took my own small elementary-school-age children to the bus stop one morning to find used condoms lining the streets.

Yes, you can say I am aggravated along with other Evanston residents. I guess I need to ask Principal Brigdon if he would be aggravated if this was a problem in his neighborhood. Since he doesn't see 40-50 cars being "too many," maybe they can park in his neighborhood from now on.
