Ms. Joanne Smith (JEWELL, Ga.)



JEWELL, Ga. - Joanne Smith, age 68, made her transition from this life on May 9, 2005, surrounded by loving family and friends at her home outside Jewell. Joanne was born in Lamar County, GA on December 10, 1936, the daughter of Curtis M. Smith, Sr. and Catheryn S. Smith. She graduated from Mary Persons High School in 1954 and from the University of Georgia School of Journalism in 1958. She worked as a department head with Storer Broadcasting and served as President of American Women of Radio and Television in the mid-seventies. Joanne then became owner and principle partner of a real estate firm in Atlanta. She was the founder and beloved teacher of the Augusta Study of Science and Mind. She is survived by three brothers, Curtis Martin Smith, Jr., Harold Lee Smith, Sr. and Robert Leonard Smith as well as one sister, Rebecca Smith. Joanne also has numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorial services for Ms. Smith will be held at Chr ist Church Unity of Augusta (corner of Central and Johns Rd.) on Saturday, May 14 at 11:00 a.m. and at the Forsyth United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 15, at 3:00 p.m. Friends and family will be received at the home of Harold and Glenda Smith at 130 Pineview Drive in Betsy-Lynn Estates, Forsyth, GA.
