BLACKSBURG, Va. - Bryan Thomas had three hits and drove in two runs as Virginia Tech beat Clemson 11-7 on Sunday.
The Hokies (20-21, 5-13 Atlantic Coast Conference) scored eight runs in the first four innings to get their first-ever home ACC win.
The Tigers (28-19, 13-9) led 4-3 going into the bottom of the fourth thanks to Travis Storrer's solo home run in the second along with a two run homer by Andy D'Alessio and an RBI single by Adrian Casanova in the fourth.
But Virginia Tech scored five runs in the fourth, including a two-run single by Billy Marn.
Marn, Jose Cueto, Nate Parks and Jose Rojas each had two of the Hokies' 14 hits.
The Tigers finished with 13 hits, including three by both Travis Storrer and D'Alessio, who also had 4 RBIs.
Virginia Tech starter Greg Fryman (3-1) allowed four runs on seven hits in 5 1-3 innings to earn the win
Clemson starter Stephen Faris (4-3) Allowed six runs, five of them earned, in 3 1-3 innings to pick up the loss.
The teams will play the second game of the three-game series Monday night in Blacksburg.
