Pacers earn split vs. No. 20 Pirates
In Savannah, Ga., No. 20 Armstrong Atlantic State used an eight-run fifth inning to come from behind and take a 12-10 Peach Belt Conference win over USC Aiken, earning a split in the doubleheader with visiting Pacers and taking the series.
No. 11 USC Aiken salvaged a game in the series with a 5-4 win in the nightcap.
The bottom of the Game 1 fifth saw the Pirates send 13 men to the plate in the inning, highlighted by back-to-back two-run doubles by Jonnie Geiger and Rob Recunco.
Peden Rucker (4-4) took the loss for the Pacers, giving up 11 hits and 10 runs - only three earned - in 4Q innings.
Pacers' lefty Jon Paul (5-2) picked up the win in the second game, hurling 6w innings of one-run ball.
Casey Durhak led the Pacers (37-16, 14-13 PBC) with five hits and five RBI on the day.
- In Knoxville, Tenn., Tennessee third baseman Chase Headley hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the 10th inning giving the Volunteers a 6-5 win over South Carolina.
Sean Watson (6-3) picked up the win for Tennessee, while reliever Brent Marsh (2-2) took the loss for the Gamecocks (32-15, 12-11).
Tennessee moves to 34-15, 14-8 SEC, with the win.

Meyer, Gators sign prep standout QB
In Jacksonville, Fla., Florida coach Urban Meyer has made sure he has plenty of options when it comes to quarterback in the next several seasons after another quarterback committed to play for the Gators.
He got his latest on Thursday, when Jevan Snead of Stephenville (Texas) High School verbally committed to the Gators for the 2006 season.
Snead (6-foot-3, 195 pounds) is Meyer's second commitment for 2006, joining Fort Myers (Fla.) Riverdale High School running back Chevon Walker.
Snead threw for 3,025 yards, 28 touchdowns and nine interceptions as a junior in 2004. He also rushed for 525 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Brady reportedly inks big extension
In Foxboro, Mass., the New England Patriots have signed quarterback Tom Brady to a six-year extension worth $60 million, a deal that for the first time brings the two-time Super Bowl MVP's salary in line with his accomplishments.
The extension was reported by ESPN and confirmed to The Associated Press by a football source, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Patriots spokesman Stacey James declined comment, and coach Bill Belichick did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Brady's agent, Don Yee, also could not be reached for comment.
