CLEMSON, S.C. - New Clemson women's basketball coach Christy McKinney brought assistant Todd Steelman over from her old job at Rice to join the Lady Tigers staff.
Steelman was with McKinney the past two years at Rice. She was happy to bring him on board. "He is an enthusiastic, energetic coach who is good on the court with players," McKinney said. "His personality and communications skills allow him to be a good recruiter."
Steelman helped McKinney and the Lady Owls to a 46-19 record the past two seasons as the team went to the WNIT and NCAA tournaments.
On Thursday, McKinney announced that Itoro Coleman, part of ex-coach Jim Davis' staff, would be retained as an assistant coach.
McKinney became the Lady Tigers first new head coach in 18 seasons last month, succeeding Davis. Davis agreed to an athletic administration job in the school's athletic department.
