Robbers break victim's jaw
Richmond County sheriff's deputies investigated the robbery of a man whose jaw was broken by his assailants early Thursday morning, a police report says.
Deputies were called to the 2500 block of Milledgeville Road after 2 a.m. after witnesses called police about a robbery.
Officers found the 38-year-old man lying on his back with his head turned, making groaning noises, the report states.
The man, who smelled of alcohol and was barely able to communicate because of his broken jaw, used hand signs to tell police that he was robbed of $200.
The man was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital for treatment. He was listed in fair condition Thursday night, a spokeswoman said.
2 teens are charged in credit card fraud
Richmond County sheriff's deputies have arrested two 17-year-old Evans teenagers in connection with a credit card fraud case, officials said Thursday.
Ryan Quigley, of Maple Ridge Court, and Cameron Wheeler Jordan, of Hardy McManus Road, were charged with felony financial transaction card fraud, sheriff's office records show.
Invest-igator Michael Shane McDaniel said the teens are accused of using a stolen credit card to charge more than $200 worth of clothing at Dillard's department store in the National Hills Shopping Center.
Jail records show Mr. Quig¤ley was arrested by Richmond County authorities at Greenbrier High School on Tuesday. Investigator McDaniel said Mr. Jordan later surrendered to authorities.
Salon says 3 clients stole manicures
An employee of a nail salon told Richmond County sheriff's deputies that three women left the business Wednesday night without paying for their manicures.
The employee of Pro Nails in the 2200 block of Tobacco Road said that after 10:30 p.m. he completed the nail jobs and went to wash his hands.
When he came back, he said, the three women got into a car and left without paying.
The total value of the mani¤cures was $131, the report states.
Police say man drove 44 mph over limit
Richmond County sheriff's deputies said they arrested and charged a man early Thursday morning for driving more than 40 mph over the speed limit on Bobby Jones Expressway.
Doyle Edward Upchurch, 29, of Lone Oak Road in Grovetown, was charged with speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol, Richmond County jail records state.
The jail records show that Mr. Upchurch was arrested at 1:20 a.m. near Interstate 520's interchange with Wrightsboro Road.
Mr. Upchurch was driving 99 mph in a 55 mph zone, records say.
Augustan says woman hit her with vehicle
A 25-year-old Augusta woman told police she was hit Wednesday by a car in the parking lot of a nightclub in the 400 block of Highland Avenue, a police report states.
Linda T. Ware said she was arguing with another woman at about 11:30 p.m.
The woman threw a beer bottle at her, according to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office report.
A relative advised Ms. Ware to leave, and she began walking toward her car when the woman drove by her.
The two women began cursing at each other. The woman passed by her again in her Honda Accord and backed up, striking Ms. Ware in the knees, according to the report. A man pulled Ms. Ware back to keep her from being injured further, she said.
Woman is arrested after leaving son alone
An Augusta woman was arrested for cruelty to children Wednesday morning after she left her child home alone, a police report states.
The manager of Trinity Manor Apartments called police at 11:43 a.m. about a child screaming loudly in one of the apartments.
Shaquilla Ivey, 25, told police that she had spanked her 2-year-old son for turning on the water in the bathroom sink while she was gone to run errands, a Richmond County sheriff's report states.
Ms. Ivey told police that she had been gone for 15 to 20 minutes, and that her son was alone.
The Department of Family and Children Services placed the child in a relative's care. Ms. Ivey was booked into the Richmond County Jail.
Teen faces charges in sale of bootleg DVDs
Richmond County sheriff's deputies have charged a 17-year-old Augusta n with selling bootleg DVDs, records show.
Jeremy Antione Hill , of the 2000 block of Roosevelt Drive, was charged Wednesday with felony unauthorized distribution of recorded material, jail records show.
A police report says that on April 29 officers found Mr. Hill and another person selling the DVDs in the 1600 block of Gordon Highway.
Probate judge is now a nonpartisan position
Warren County's probate judge position will become a nonpartisan office under a local bill Gov. Sonny Perdue signed into law Thursday.
The change means future candidates will no longer square off in party primaries but will be listed on November general election ballots without political affiliation.
The U.S. Department of Justice still must approve the switch.
