The Division II No. 1-ranked Pacers trail South Florida by a shot after 36 holes of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at Palmetto Golf Club. The final round begins today at 8:30 a.m.
USC Aiken carded rounds of 292 and 288 on Monday for a 12-over-par 580 total. South Florida (287-292) leads at 579.
Charleston Southern stands in third place at 581. East Carolina and Houston are tied at 585.
East Carolina's Brandon Pace (70-71), Virginia Commonwealth's William Thompson (70-71) and Charleston Southern's Stuart Carrihill (71-70) are all tied for the lead at 1-under-par 141. Houston's Jordan Irwin (73-69) and South Florida's Federico Mautone (69-73) are each one shot back.
USC Aiken's Dane Burkhart (72-71) and Clint Smith (71-72) are part of a four-way tie for sixth place.
Playing as an individual, Pacer James Browning (74-71) is tied for 11th at 145.
Other USC Aiken team members include: Casey Thompson (T-20, 147), Scott Brown (T-26, 149) and Tyler Rolley (T-35, 151).
The Pacers won five of their first six tournaments to begin the 2004-05 season. USC Aiken has won its home event just once (1999) in the past seven years.
