Mr. Jack Bowles (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Friday, March 11, 2005 at University Hospital, Mr. John Furlong "Jack" Bowles, 80, husband of 40 years of Jean Anna Goss Bowles of Augusta. Mr. Bowles was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a graduate of Spring Hill College. Mr. Bowles retired after 40 years as the owner of Jack Bowles Realty, as a home builder, and developer. He was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. He was member of the Knights of Columbus Patrick Walsh Council - 677, and the Patrick Walsh Council Assembly -174. He served 3 terms as President of the Home Builders Association of Augusta. He received the first Jack Bowles award in 1992 and was honored with Jack Bowles Day in August of 1974. He was the Georgia State Home Builders President in 1963 and was the first inductee in the Georgia Hall of Fame in 1986. In the National Home Builders Association, he was the State representative in 1964 and received the National Outstanding Representative award. He served as the National Vice president of the National Home Builders in 1967 and in 1975 and served 5 years on the National Association of Home Builders Executive Committee. Family members include his wife; sons, Chris and Greg Bowles; daughters:,Cynthia Bowles Davis, Susan Bowles, Jane Fuhrmann, Donna Adams, Angela Bowles, Sandra Bowles; sister, Virginia Seigler; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The Funeral Mass will be Monday, March 14, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Jerry Ragan and Fr. Martino Nguyen celebrants. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Augusta Home Builders Association. A Prayer Service (Rosary) will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 at Thomas Poteet and Son.
