Jaguars pour it on Malloy for sweep
Augusta State got great pitching and an impressive offensive outburst to sweep away Malloy, 16-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Jaguars starter Cody Williams pitched a complete game three-hitter. He had five strikeouts.
The No. 13 Jaguars' attack was led by Brandon Sumlin, Sam Barth and Dustin Rucker who each had three hits. Rucker and Chris Demons also had home runs.
Augusta State (14-7) will next play at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday against Southern Indiana at home.
• In Florence, S.C., No. 30 USC Aiken managed just six hits against two Franics Marion pitchers in a 3-0 loss in the rubber game of a three-game Peach Belt Conference series.
Starter Michael Williams allowed five hits through five innings and Mitch Norris gave up just one hit the rest of the way for the No. 29 Patriots (13-6-1, 5-6-1).
The Pacers (11-5, 4-5) hit into three double plays. Starter Peden Rucker (2-1) took the loss despite giving up only five hits in eight innings.
• In Minneapolis, Steven Tolleson went 3-for-3 with two doubles and Brendan Winn hit his seventh home run of the year as South Carolina defeated New Orleans 9-3 in the Dairy Queen Classic.
The No. 5 Gamecocks (12-1) scored two runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
• In Auburn, Ala., No. 24 Clemson (5-4) pounded out 18 hits to whip Southeastern Conference foe Auburn (12-5) 14-3.
• Two East Carolina (7-4) pitchers combined on a six-hitter to beat Georgia (7-3) 7-1.
• In Durham, N.C., Danny Payne hit a two-run homer in the third inning and Georgia Tech went ahead to stay, defeating Duke 19-3 in an Atlantic Coast Conference game.
• In Statesboro, Ga., Dustin Evans pitched six shutout innings as Georgia Southern (6-6) swept Buffalo with an 8-5 win.

Georgian qualifies with 352-yard effort
Nathan Stanford, of Hartwell, Ga., won the open division of the Re/Max Long Drive qualifying event on Sunday at Wedges and Woods driving range.
Stanford won with a 352-yard drive. Bart Shafer, of Evans, was second with a 343-yard effort.
Terry Small (342) won the Senior Division, Roland Caldwell, of Evans, won the Super Senior Division (250) and Augusta's Nick Edry won the Junior Division (315).

Two area fighters pick up decisions
The Augusta Boxing Club had a successful weekend at the Rumble in Columbus matches in Columbus, Ga.
A.J. Obleton, 10, won the 85-pound class with an unanimous decision. Ben Leverette, 17, also won with a unanimous decision in the 165-pound class.

Falcons add kicker, re-sign Pro Bowler
In Atlanta, the Atlanta Falcons re-signed Pro Bowl return specialist Allen Rossum and added kicker Todd Peterson.
Rossum, who set an NFL playoff record last season with 153 yards on three punt returns against St. Louis, agreed to a four-year contract. The 5-foot-8, 178 pound seven-year veteran had 21 tackles, two interceptions and a sack while playing defensive back.
• Free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress will visit the New York Giants today to discuss becoming the deep threat that Eli Manning so desperately needs.
Burress' agent, Michael Harrison, told The Associated Press that his client will leave from Miami this morning and spend the afternoon in New York.
Harrison said Burress, who has been talking with several teams including the Minnesota Vikings, wants to go to a team with a good tight end, good running back and good quarterback.
• In Tempe, Ariz., Kurt Warner agreed to a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals, the two-time MVP's third team in three seasons.
Warner was the starter for the New York Giants last year, but gave way to Eli Manning.
