Officials released the name of a man Monday charged in the shooting death of another man in Lincoln County last weekend.
Lawrence Curtis Evans Jr., of Elberton, Ga., was charged with murder in the shooting death Sunday of Rickie F. Lavender Sr., 44, said Gary Nicholson, the special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Thomson office.
According to Lincoln County Sheriff Gerald Lawson, his agency got a call at about 5 a.m. Sunday saying someone had been shot in the 1100 block of Fisherman's Lane.
Authorities found Mr. Lavender dead, a news release says.
Mr. Evans also has been charged with kidnapping, Agent Nicholson said.
During the incident, Mr. Evans had kidnapped his ex-wife, Michelle Evans, from Mr. Lavender's home and taken her into Elbert County, the agent said.
Elbert County sheriff's deputies spotted Mr. Evans and his vehicle.
Sheriff Lawson said Mr. Evans returned home and called for an ambulance Sunday morning after he tried to overdose on drugs. He was admitted to the Elbert County Hospital.
He was released from the hospital Sunday evening and was moved to the Lincoln County jail, the sheriff said.
Agent Nicholson said authorities are not sure of the motive in the shooting and kidnapping.
