Interstate crash kills driver

A 28-year-old Aiken man was killed this morning when his 1997 Honda Accord hydroplaned and struck a tractor-trailer on Interstate 20, authorities said.

The driver, whose name was not released, was entering I-20 from the South Carolina Highway 19 eastbound on-ramp, said Lance Cpl. Dwight Green, of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

He was driving too fast for conditions, slid across the slick highway and struck the right rear tires of the tractor-trailer, Lance Cpl. Green said.

The crash killed the driver and sent passenger Korie T. Lott, 24, of Ridge Spring, to Aiken Regional Medical Centers with minor injuries, he said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
