Auto crash kills Evans teenager

A Greenbrier High School student was killed in a car accident Sunday night on William Few Parkway.

William Ryan Howell, 17, of the 2300 block of William Few Parkway in Evans, was driving home from his job at the Bojangles restaurant, at William Few Parkway and Washington Road, at about 10:45 p.m. when he lost control of his Chevrolet Camaro, Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said.

Police say the driver was negotiating a southbound curve roughly one-half mile south of Windmill Parkway. The car slid across the northbound lane and up an embankment before slamming into a power pole, Capt. Morris said.

Columbia County Deputy Coroner Vernon Collins said Mr. Howell died of blunt force trauma. Mr. Collins said he does not suspect alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident.
