The guilty verdict delivered by the South Carolina jury in the case of Christopher Pittman was absolutely correct, fair and essential to the pursuit of a just social order. This 15-year-old "Zoloft Boy" killed his grandparents because he did not like their handling of his issues and he then blamed it on antidepressants.
For the rest of us trying to raise children and pursue our lives in this "anything goes" world, this is a step forward. Hopefully, it is the beginning of the end of political correctness.
It is discouraging for all good citizens to watch as thugs, miscreants and thieves offend and then cry "foul" when they're caught. It then becomes a litany of excuses and a parade of enablers. Tell your story, pick a cliche, and proceed to the checkout counter for a verdict, label or check:
"Momma held me too long. Momma didn't hold me long enough. I suffer from poverty. I suffer from riches. I've taken too many antidepressants. I've been dissed. I've been drinkin'. I'm a victim."
There are no boundaries. No deal is refused. No excuses should become the order of the day and then everyone would receive their reward in the form of a more functional society.
