RESPONDING TO TRAGEDY: A community church service, Responding to Tragedy: A Community Service of Healing and Thanksgiving, will begin at 7 p.m. at Leavelle McCampbell Middle School, 82 Canal St., Graniteville. In response to the Graniteville train wreck and chemical release, the special service will feature music by a mass choir from area congregations and a message by the Rev. AIKEN -- The first case called in court yesterday morning was that of Lawrence Randall, charged with the murder of Arthur Weathersbee. The trial of this case occupied but a short time, and the jury, without leaving their seats, returned the verdict of "not guilty."
The case of Willis Menshon, charged with stealing cotton, was tried next. The jury brought in a verdict of guilty, but the sentence has not yet been passed.
