One of the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 was closed for more than an hour Friday morning as a result of a single-vehicle accident that left an Evans man in fair condition.
The westbound lanes of the interstate were completely closed for 15 minutes while Allen Price, 21, of Lake Idylwilde Drive, was loaded into an air ambulance after the truck he was a passenger in flipped over. Charles Blackburn, 36, of Evans, was driving the pick-up truck just west of Lewiston Road at about 9:20 a.m., when the tire tread came off the left rear tire, Columbia County sheriff's Sgt. Jerry McGahee said. Mr. Blackburn was not injured.
According to witnesses, the truck fishtailed out of control and veered into the shoulder, where it flipped several times and landed upside down on an embankment, Sgt. McGahee said. Mr. Price, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.
Mr. Price was airlifted to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon, Danielle Wong Moores, a hospital spokeswoman, said.
