Health insurance enrollment: The Medical College of Georgia and Taco Bell are working together to sign up families for free and low-cost health insurance. The Covering Kids and Families Project will enroll uninsured children in Peach Care for Kids from 3 to 6 p.m. at Taco Bell, 3222 Wrightsboro Road. For more information, call 394-2392.

Plants seminar: The Columbia County Extension Service will hold a lunch seminar from 12:10 to 12:45 p.m. in the auditorium at the Government Complex on Ronald Reagan Drive in Evans. Dog obedience registration: The Augusta Humane Society will hold registration for dog obedience and puppy socialization classes at

6:30 p.m. at the Julian Smith Casino, 2200 Broad St. Bring proof of your dog's vaccinations. Owners are asked not to bring their dogs to registration. For more information, call 736-0186.

Toastmasters meet: Toastmasters 5051 will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Partridge Inn, 2110 Walton Way, lower level. The group provides a forum to practice public speaking in a friendly, nonthreatening environment. For more information, call 791-4551. CutlineBoxAugusta Fresh Start is a new initiative being conducted by the Augusta Neighborhood Improvement Corp. that is designed to help people with marginal credit buy homes in Richmond County.

Under the program, Augusta Fresh Start LLC will buy homes and lease them to its participants for three years. During that time, participants will be taught ways to better manage their finances and improve their credit. Once participants successfully complete the three-year lease period, Augusta Fresh Start will transfer the mortgage to them.

Gov. Carl Sanders, of Augusta, told the two boards that administer educational programs to trim any financial fat in their operations.

He issued the challenge yesterday in Atlanta in letters to the state Board of Education and the state Board of Regents.
