Column on Patty Berg was splendid

Scott Michaux dealt beautifully with the Patty Berg story in his column Dec. 24 ("Berg letter is heartfelt farewell"). As Mr. Michaux expressed so well, Miss Berg is worthy of admiration and praise. She was a fine golfer and a fierce competitor, but deep down within her there was a generous element of grace, whether she was winning or losing. She always was a lady, and her poignant letter to the LPGA reporting that she is in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease is just one example of that quality.

Eileen Stulb is a good friend of Patty's, and many do not know that this native Augusta amateur, on two occasions, finished second in the Titleholders field that included the best professionals in women's golf.

We are fortunate to have the talented and sensitive Scott Michaux write such columns as this one on Patty Berg. I am grateful to him.
