This bar's recently refurbished back-porch stage now features all-season accouterment such as a roof and heating, making it a pleasant spot to catch a show year-round. THE SOUL BAR

The granddaddy of downtown venues, this bar has an eclectic booking policy that allows jazz, rap and rock to take the stage on successive evenings. THE MISSION

The new kid on the block, The Mission, has been open only a few months. Featuring a large stage in an expansive room, the venue has the space and facilities for larger touring acts. Recent shows have included the Zen Tricksters, Entropy and Modern Skirt. For more information, call 722-1233.

BELL AUDITORIUM

The smaller sibling to the civic center, Bell seats about 2,700 when set for concerts or stage plays. Suspect acoustics make it best suited for amplified acts, but this historic venue has seen acts from Elvis to B.B. King step in front of its footlights. For more information, call 724-2400.
