Give our flag the proper respect

After listening to one listener on a local radio talk show, I was struck once again with how little understanding and respect people have for the United States flag. The caller said, in effect, "Well, if you bought the flag, it's yours and you can hang it the way you want to." How pathetic she seemed, and yet prophetic at the same time.

"It's mine" is what it's all about today. She obviously never served this country, and doesn't understand the importance of words such as duty, honor or country, and our flag - notwithstanding the lack of respect for our American flag that she displayed by saying it's hers and she bought it.

No, ma'am, you didn't buy it. The soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen and Coast Guardsmen bought it for you, with their service, and their lives. You should respect it, and show it correctly, and proudly. It's not lowered for football stars; it's lowered for a cherished few, and at the appropriate time in the appropriate manner.

She and anyone else who think similarly should get a ticket to Canada. Those of us who stand by our flag and our God, and give them their due respect, won't miss you.
