5 arrested in theft from Mexican restaurant

Law enforcement authorities have arrested five members of a local crime ring who they said are responsible for Sunday's break-in at a Mexican restaurant.

Veracruz Mexican Restaurant employee Saul Ordaz filed an incident report with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office on Sunday after he discovered someone had stolen a safe that had been bolted to the office floor.

Mr. Ordaz, 30, told deputies the person entered the business, in the 1000 block of Stevens Creek Road, between 6 and 10 a.m. by breaking down a side entrance door and an office window, according to the report.

Charged with felony burglary are Dana Lynn Dupart and her husband, Prince Phillip Dupart, 20, both of the 2200 block of Southgate Drive in Augusta; Donna D. Barnhart-Onate, 33, of the 1400 block of Aylesbury Drive in Evans; Henry Lee Brown, 30, of the 2400 block of Bahama Drive in Augusta; and Shayla Chantal Reid, 22, of the 3000 block of Parrish Road in Augusta.

Restaurant owner Emilio Sanchez told deputies the safe contained cash, although he did not know how much was inside at the time of the theft.

A diamond 14-karat gold ring and numerous checkbooks and credit cards also were in the safe, the report said.
