Mr. Alonzo A. Padgett (AIKEN, S.C.)



AIKEN, S.C. - Answered God's call Monday, December 27, 2004, Mr. Alonzo A. "Al" Padgett of Aiken, S.C., beloved husband of Naomi K. Padgett and son of the late Alphie Padgett and the late Allie Franklin Padgett. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Susan P. Morris and her husband Bruce, Debra R. Logue and her husband, Glenn all of Aiken, S.C. and Barbara P. Geiger of Columbia, S.C., sons, Mike Padgett, Tommy Padgett and his wife, Cynthia all of Aiken, Tim Padgett and his wife Amy, Troy Padgett and his wife, Katrell all of Martinez, Ga. and Billy D. Rains and his wife, Ann of Aiken, S.C., a brother, Adrian Padgett and his wife, Lorene of Florence, S.C., a brother-in-law, Joe Cumbee and his wife Eldora of Clearwater, S.C., twenty grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eileen Cumbee Padgett. He was born in and was a lifelong resident of Aiken County. He was retired from Savanna h River Plant with over 30 years of service. He graduated from Aiken High School. He was a member of University Parkway Church of God, formerly Vaucluse Road Church of God in Vaucluse, S.C., where he was a former Council member. He was also a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Aiken, S.C., where he was a former deacon, a member of Masonic Star Lodge #99 in Graniteville, S.C. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during World War II. During this tenure, he was awarded the European American Campaign Medal with five bronze stars. Al, as he was so fondly known by his family and friends was just a likeable gentleman, who always had a big smile for everyone he met. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be greatly missed and there will definitely be a big void in everyone's life as he touched many; however, there is a consolation in knowing that he is in a better place. Yes, another soldier made it home. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with Rev. Derrick Cutter, Rev. W. H. Bryant and Rev. Henry Shaffer officiating. The interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Park with military honors accorded. The pallbearers will be Guy, Chris and Tyler Padgett, Bruce Morris, Jr., Matthew Rains, Keith Goff and Jason Padgett. The honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Phillips, Leroy Harris, Nathaniel, James and Horace Rushton, Chester Enloe, Gene Peavlor and Calvin Wilson.
