Mrs. Lillie Mae Lockwood (COLUMBIA, S.C.)



COLUMBIA, S.C. - Augusta, Ga.- Mrs. Lillie Mae Anderson Lockwood, 82, entered into rest on Sunday, December 26, 2004. Mrs. Lockwood was born in Harlem, Georgia on April 20, 1922. She was the beloved wife of 51 years to the late James Francis Lockwood. She is survived by one sister, Etta Ruth Moore, of Pooler, Ga.; two sons, Dr. Carl J. Lockwood, of Columbia, SC., and Paul R. Lockwood, of Augusta; two daughters, Marie Elaine Logan, of Eagle River, Alaska, and Dorothy Etta Cunningham, of Augusta. The Lockwood's also raised two foster daughters, Patricia L. Philmon, of New Orleans and Peggy Rollins, of Florida. Mrs. Lockwood had 11 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lockwood attended Berry College, Augusta College and the University of Georgia, where she earned her Masters' degree in Education in 1974. She retired as a librarian from the Veteran's Hospital in Augusta. She was very faithful and active in her Church, St. Joseph Parish in Augusta. She served her community in organizations such as the AARP, Senior Citizens Council, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 178, the Pilot Club, and the Foster Parent Association. Mrs. Lockwood and her husband were Foster Parents between 1979 and 1989 and had cared for twenty children during that time. She loved people and helped everyone in need. She was a wonderful person who lived life to the fullest and gave completely of herself. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1899 Central Road, Augusta, Ga. 30904.
