LOS ANGELES - Actor Josh Brolin was cited for misdemeanor domestic battery over the weekend after his wife, actress Diane Lane, called police during an argument at the couple's home.

Brolin, the son of actor James Brolin and stepson of Barbra Streisand, was arrested around 3 a.m. Sunday and released on $20,000 bail, Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the city attorney's office, said Monday.

The city attorney is reviewing the case and no charges have been filed, he said. Domestic battery is a misdemeanor, Mateljan said.

Kelly Bush, the couple's spokeswoman, said the incident was a "misunderstanding" and the couple had reconciled.

Brolin and Lane were married in an August ceremony on Brolin's ranch north of Los Angeles. Lane, 39, the star of "Unfaithful" and "Under the Tuscan Sun," had been engaged to Brolin, 36, since 2002.

LOS ANGELES - Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire have been sued by a producer who claims the two actors blocked distribution of a 1995 independent film they starred in.

John Schindler says the actors warned potential distributors that DiCaprio wouldn't work with them on other projects if they released "Don's Plum," a low-budget, black-and-white film about a group of friends hanging out at a diner.

The Superior Court complaint, filed Friday, claims they wrongly deny the movie was meant for commercial release and seeks $38 million and unspecified damages.

Messages left with DiCaprio's publicist, Ken Sunshine, and Maguire's publicist, Kelly Bush, weren't immediately returned Monday.

In 1999, DiCaprio and Maguire settled a $10 million lawsuit with another producer who accused them of using DiCaprio's superstar status to prevent the movie's release.

The agreement with producer David Stutman allowed for distribution outside the United States, Canada and the countries' territories.

The actors have said they made the film as a "favor to a friend" and did so under the agreement that it would never be promoted as a feature-length movie.

NEW YORK - The latest "Apprentice" has been hired and the newest "Survivor" has, well, survived. But fans shouldn't fret. In the downtime before the next installments, they can own a piece of reality TV history.

Props from NBC's "The Apprentice" and CBS' "Survivor" are now available on eBay with proceeds benefiting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, which battles AIDS at 500 sites in 17 countries.

"From the perspective of the foundation, this offers incredible visibility for the importance of the issue," foundation President Kate Carr told The Associated Press recently. "People are combating AIDS with priceless gifts."

Executive producer Mark Burnett has donated props from "Survivor" since he traveled to Africa for the third season and saw the plight firsthand. And during the first season of "The Apprentice," candidates produced a Sotheby's auction benefiting the foundation.

"The Apprentice" items range from Planet Hollywood mini-basketballs, which were signed by first season runner-up Kwame Jackson, to smocks worn during second season candy bar and ice cream tasks. "Survivor: Vanuatu - Islands of Fire" props include camp supplies, torches and flags. But the allure of the memorabilia is lost on Carr.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," said Carr. "For whatever reason, the reality shows have an essence that touch people. I'd like to think that part of it is altruistic. It's a potent combination."

Money from the auctions could go to the purchase of prescription drugs or a grant for clinical research projects.

"Our auctions have brought in right around $1.2 million," Carr told the AP. "The 'All-Stars' auction brought in around a quarter of a million dollars. Would I love that again? You bet."

ASBURY PARK, N.J. - Once again, The Boss gave a boost to the seaside city where he rose to rock 'n' roll fame.

Bruce Springsteen performed two sold-out benefit concerts at a downtown tavern Sunday, raising about $100,000 for local charities, and urged fans to support Asbury Park, which is emerging from decades of decline.

"So please tell all your friends to come down," Springsteen said before singing "Run Rudolph Run."

Merchants also credited Springsteen with boosting business by offering 10 people a pair of free tickets, along with the chance to meet him backstage, by entering a drawing that required them to visit an Asbury Park store.

The holiday benefits have become a tradition for Springsteen, a Freehold native who now lives in Rumson. Like Asbury Park, all the towns are in Monmouth County.

This year's edition was held in a club-like setting, Harry's Roadhouse, which held about 500 people for each show. Prior holiday benefits have been at a 3,000-seat oceanside venue, Convention Hall. Tickets, at $100 each, sold out almost immediately.

NEW YORK - R&B singer Roberta Flack plans to transform two abandoned brownstones in Harlem into a school of music to be opened next fall.

The 126th Street facility will offer free liberal arts classes for talented students, Flack told the New York Post in Monday editions. It will house a permanent faculty of teachers, classrooms, a recording studio, an auditorium and performance cafe.

Flack has already secured a $1 million investment from Carver Federal Savings Bank and is seeking an additional $2 million in donations and private investments.

"There are so many young artists who have talent but they need support," said the 65-year-old Grammy-winning singer, who studied piano at Howard University in Washington. "I had such good teachers when I was young, I just wanted to give some of that back."

LONDON - The Old Vic theater apologized after the first performance of its Christmas pantomime, "Aladdin," was canceled because of technical problems.

Ticket holders were promised refunds or alternative bookings where possible for the show, which stars Ian McKellen and Maureen Lipman.

Vivien Wallace, the Old Vic marketing director, apologized for the unspecified problems, which emerged during a dress rehearsal Friday. In a statement, the theater said "Aladdin" was a demanding show with complicated staging.

The show went ahead as scheduled Saturday.

On Thursday night, London's West End had another problem when Nathan Lane pulled out of a performance of "The Producers" because of back problems. Lane, who has been playing to packed houses since the Mel Brooks musical opened last month, was replaced by his understudy, Cory English.

Lane has since returned to the show.

MEXICO CITY - Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek hit it off from day one during the filming of "Bandidas," a Western about two female outlaws set in 19th-century Mexico.

"We've enjoyed it from the first day until yesterday," Cruz said Saturday, having completed about 14 weeks of working with Hayek, mostly in the northern Mexican state of Durango. "We have an incredible communication."

Written and produced by French filmmaker Luc Besson, "Bandidas" tells the story of two women - one rich, the other poor - who overcome their differences to work together robbing banks. The movie, which finishes shooting this week, doesn't yet have a release date.

At a press conference in Mexico City, Besson testified to the close relationship between the two starring actresses, noting that the friendship verged upon the conspiratorial.

"I just want to tell you it's 100 percent true," said Besson. "They love each other, sometimes too much. They speak Spanish. We don't understand anything."

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands - A poster signed by Jennifer Lopez and a guitar signed by Wyclef Jean were put up for sale in an MTV internet auction to raise money for hurricane victims.

Seventy-five percent of proceeds from the Caribbean Relief Charity Auction will go to American Red Cross efforts in Haiti, Grenada and the Cayman Islands, according to MTV's Web site. The auction ran through Monday.

Other items included a poster signed by Britney Spears and tickets to "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - Dominican outfielder Moises Alou said he wasn't injured when his car hit a pothole in the Dominican Republic's capital and momentarily spun out of control.

"I'm grateful that everybody worries about me, but thank God I'm OK," the 38-year-old free agent told The Associated Press Sunday. "Two of the tires blew out and I had to call for help to tow it. There was not a crash or any injuries."

Alou, who lives in Santo Domingo during the offseason, was driving and there were no passengers in the car Saturday night.
