Keep warm
Tips for the winter heating season from Atlanta Gas Light Co:
- Add weather stripping and caulking to doors and windows. As much as 30 percent to 40 percent of a home's energy load is attributed to outside air penetrating the house.
- Change disposable air filters in your furnace two or three times a year and have it inspected by a professional at least once a year.
- Turn down the water heater's thermostat setting to about 120 degrees.
- When washing clothes, use warm or cold water not hot and rinse with cold water.
- Install a low- flow showerhead. Showers use less hot water than baths.
Today in regional history:
Dec. 19, 1958
The Wilson Shirt Co. will locate a manufacturing plant at Augusta early next month, Maxwell J. Estroff and Jack E. Fink announced through the Committee of 100.
The plant will employ about 100 persons, they said, and will be in operation on or about the first of April. It was the second announcement of a new industry for Richmond County in as many days. The Continental Can Co. revealed plans Wednesday to construct a mammoth paper mill just below the Bush Field Airport.
