Mrs. Tecora Gaston Burt (MCCORMICK, S.C.)



MCCORMICK, S.C. - Mrs. Tecora Gaston Burt, wife of Deacon James "Fab" Burt died at her home, in Edgefield County, December 13, 2004. She was born in Edgefield County, February 24, 1930, a daughter of the late Wade and Cornelia Talbert Gaston. She was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Plum Branch, where she served as church secretary, director of Vacation Bible School, President of the Simmon Ridge Samaritan Baptist Associate Women's Auxiliary, Dean of the Western Division of the Macedonia Baptist Sunday School Congress and many other auxiliaries of her local church. She was a graduate of Edgefield Academy where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Morris College and did further studies at South Carolina State University and the University of South Carolina. She retired after 30 years of teaching in the Edgefield County School System. She was a member of the Retired Educational Association and was Worthy Matron of T he Ponds Chapter Number 33 Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, James Burt of the home; one brother, Earl Gaston; her niece and caregiver, Mrs. Wanda Jean Morton and a nephew, William W. Rearden of Fort Washington, MD. Services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with Revs. Melvin Gordon, Pastor, George Key, Ernest Gordon, Lewis Burt, Arthur Kemp and Ernest Cannon officiating. Interment will be at Mine Creek Baptist Church in Johnston. The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Wednesday evening at Mt. Moriah Church in Plumb Branch.
