Four get charged in deliveryman's slaying

ATLANTA -- Four people have been arrested in the killing of a 27-year-old man who was shot while delivering newspapers in DeKalb County.

Ulice Carl Walker was found dead shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday in his sport utility ve­hicle, which had careened off the road and hit a tree. He was delivering newspapers for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

A short time later, police ar­rested four people in a shooting at a nearby gas station, then also charged them with murder in Mr. Walker's death.

Christopher Reynolds, 22, of Decatur; Dwayne Harris, 17, of Scottdale; Antavious Maddox, 17, of Stone Mountain; and a 16-year-old from Decatur whose name was withheld because he is a juvenile were caught af­ter they crashed a stolen car on Interstate 20 while fleeing the gas station shooting, police said.

County, fired chief try for severance deal

MARIETTA -- Cobb County and its fired police chief are trying to work out a severance deal that could avoid a public airing of their dispute.

Lee New, who was dismissed last month, appealed the decision and sought a hearing, scheduled for Friday. But that might not be necessary if a severance deal is worked out.

Mr. New said Saturday that he was "cautiously optimis­tic" that negotiations held Wednes­day would result in a severance deal as early as today.

Bar is closed over play containing nudity

ATLANTA -- Police shut down an Atlanta bar that was showing a play featuring nudity because the business didn't have an adult entertainment license.

But the manager of The Armory bar said police overreacted Saturday. He said the play, which had been running since August, is theater.

Naked Boys Sing­ing is a gay-themed show billed as a revue that "celebrates the splendors of male nudity in comedy, song and dance." It features six male actors who are in the buff for much of the performance.

Man wanted by police tries to kill himself

WINDER -- A man wanted for questioning in the death of a Barrow County woman attempted suicide hours after the slaying, leaving him in critical condition and authorities with questions , police said.

Linda Holman Dehart, 42, was found dead in her Win­der home Saturday after her relatives called the Barrow County Sheriff's Department to say they were concerned about her safety. Authorities have not released the cause of her death.

Investigators said a man named William Lester Hunter had stolen her car, and they tracked him to a casino in Tunica County, Miss. When they called the casino at about 4 p.m., a worker said Mr. Hunter had attempted suicide and had been taken to a Memphis hospital, Maj. Murray Kogod said.
