An Augusta woman caring for her 5-year-old great-nephew needs help this winter to pay household bills.
The woman, 57, is raising the boy alone because his parents are both drug addicts and his father is in jail.
The boy lived in four different homes during in a 16-month period, and the woman writes that she could not let him go to another.
She must drive her great-nephew to Aiken for treatment for his mental health problems in a vehicle with 150,000 miles on it. The woman receives food stamps but gets no child support from the boy's parents. Her job wages are stretched thin, she writes.
"But with God's help, I know He will get us through," the woman writes. "So far, we still have a place to live and food to eat. Please help if you can."
This woman will receive assistance thanks to contributions made to The Augusta Chronicle's 74th annual Empty Stocking Fund. Contributions can be sent to Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928. Visit www.augustachronicle.com/emptystocking to donate online.
