ATLANTA - The Bowl Championship Series controversy trickled all the way down to the Champs Sports Bowl and Georgia Tech on Sunday.
The Yellow Jackets will face Big East co-champion Syracuse instead of Colorado in the Dec. 21 game at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
Texas' at-large BCS bid sent the Buffaloes to the Houston Bowl. The Longhorns jumped California in the final BCS standings to bump Cal out of the Rose Bowl.
Texas' inclusion in the BCS scrambled the Big 12 bowl hierarchy and left the league one team shy of filling its bowl commitments.
Syracuse (6-5) took the opening in the Champs Sports Bowl.
The Orange won three of their final four games, defeating league co-champs Pittsburgh and Boston College.
"Syracuse has a lot of momentum," Georgia Tech head coach Chan Gailey said. "They were very impressive in winning at Boston College in their last game. They're a big, physical team that runs the ball very well."
