JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Haminn Quaintance scored eight of Jacksonville's 12 points in overtime to lead the Dolphins to a 78-75 win over Georgia State in the Atlantic Sun opener for both teams Thursday night.
Georgia State scored the first four points of the extra period, but Quaintance matched that with a jumper and a lay-up. The last of his four baskets came with 43 seconds remaining and gave the Dolphins (3-1) a 76-73 lead.
The Panthers (2-3) pulled to within one following Marcus Brown's tip-in with 15 seconds left, but Antonio Cool hit two free throws with 2.3 seconds left to secure the win.
Georgia State held a 66-63 lead with 23 seconds left in regulation following Boyd Copeland's free throw. Jacksonville missed two chances to tie before B.J. Surry hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
Cool scored 12 of his 17 points in the first half to lead the Dolphins (3-1) while Quaintance scored all 13 of his points after the half.
Brown led the Panthers with 21 points while Tikoyo Barnett added 17.
