Pacers' Lloyd gets yet another honor

USC Aiken's Jenny Lloyd has been named a first-team, all-region selection by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Lloyd, a senior captain for the Lady Pacers, was an outside hitter for the team that compiled a 21-13 record this season.

"Jenny represents what our program strives to accomplish," USC Aiken coach Will Condon said. "She has improved every year through hard work, a willingness to learn."

Lloyd also was named to the 2004 Peach Belt All-Conference and Daktronics Second Team All-Region squads.

Bradley charged in traffic incident

In Copley, Ohio, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Milton Bradley was charged with disorderly conduct after interfering with a traffic stop near Akron.

The charge came after police stopped a woman for weaving on a highway Thursday. Police say Bradley, who was driving another car ahead of the woman, stopped on an exit ramp and walked on the side of the highway until he reached the traffic stop.

"He started screaming to the officer something to the effect of, ‘Why are you stopping my friend?'" Copley Township Police Chief Michael Mier said. "The officer had to tell him several times to return to his vehicle, and he refused to do so."

He was suspended for four games in June for tossing a bag of balls onto the field after an ejection and suspended an additional five games in September after a bottle-throwing tantrum and confrontation with fans in Los Angeles.

- Catcher Doug Mirabelli became the first of Boston's 16 free agents to re-sign, agreeing to a $3 million, two-year contract with the World Series champion Red Sox.

Mirabelli will earn a $200,000 signing bonus and $1.4 million in each of the next two seasons.

- The Toronto Blue Jays agreed to buy SkyDome, the team's ballpark, for about $21.2 million.

The 50,000-seat stadium, which opened in 1989, cost about $375 million to construct and was mostly funded by taxpayers.

The Blue Jays, who are owned by Rogers Communications, will acquire the ballpark from Sportsco International LP, a Chicago-based group of investors who bought SkyDome out of bankruptcy court in 1999 for about $74 million.

Austrian men's team nets female goalie

Barbara Zemann is a banker by trade. Now she's the first female to play for an Austrian men's hockey team.

The 33-year-old Zemann made her debut for KSV Feuerwehr in the country's third division on

Nov. 20 but was formally introduced by the team Monday.

"It's wonderful. I'm proud and honored," said Zemann, who played goalie for the EHV Sabres, Austria's champion women's hockey team.

Last year, Canadian female Olympic star Hayley Wickenheiser played in Finland's second-highest league, and the center became the first woman to score a goal in a men's pro hockey game.

Zemann's debut for KSV Feuerwehr was rocky. She gave up 10 goals in a 23-4 loss. Still, she'll start in goal in KSV Feuerwehr's next game.

Spadafora trial delayed by judge

In Pittsburgh, the trial for boxer Paul Spadafora on charges he shot his girlfriend after a traffic mishap was delayed until next month.

Allegheny County Judge Jeffrey A. Manning granted the delay after Spadafora's lawyer said the boxer was scheduled to undergo surgery on his elbow and that the shooting victim, Nadine Russo, was pregnant and past her due date.

A trial had been set to start Monday for Spadafora, who is accused of shooting Russo in the abdomen on Oct. 26, 2003. Spadafora's trial on attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other charges was rescheduled for Dec. 20.

Spadafora is a former International Boxing Federation lightweight champion.
