COOKING WITH SOUP

When Americans cook with soup, they most often reach for cream of mushroom. The next four most popular soups, in descending order, are chicken broth, cream of chicken, tomato and cream of celery.

If your kitchen features nutritious foods in clear containers, an accessible cutting board, sharp knives and tools for measuring serving sizes, you'll have a better chance of meeting your goals for healthy eating.

Emergency plan

Prevention magazine suggests you make plans for a trip to the emergency room. Ask your family physician which hospital has the best-equipped ER so you can tell an ambulance team, and carry your doctor's business card and a list of medications.

Today in regional history:

NOV. 30, 1912

Ed Graves, about 18, who has quite a checkered career in the criminal courts of this county for petty larcenies, was tried before Judge W.F. Eve yesterday morning for stealing three chickens. The jury deliberated for only a few minutes before returning a guilty verdict, and a sentence of eight months was imposed by the court.

Mr. Graves has been in court before and was tried for stealing a flock of geese and a calf. His attorney has appealed.
