Mr. James E. Conner (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - James E. Conner, 75, of Dugas Street departed this life on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at his residence. A native of Marion, S.C., he was a retired employee of E. I. DuPont at SRS and Westinghouse SRS, where he was a Chemist for 37 years. Upon retirement, he served as President of the Laney Walker Development Corporation. He was a member of Thankful Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon's Board, as President of the Gospel Choir and as a Sunday School teacher. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Thankful Baptist Church, Augusta, with Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Cherishing precious memories are his soul-mate of 50 years, Gussie; his children, Velyna Elizabeth and Frank W. Johnson, Jr. of Alpharetta and Weyta Louise and Michael W. Malone of New Orleans, La. and Joya Elizabeth Johnson of Alpharetta; two grandchildren, Michael W. Malone, Jr. of New Orleans, La. and Joya Elizabeth Johnson of Alpharetta, Ga.; one sister, Mildred Conner Jordan of Raleigh, N.C.; five brothers and their wives, Eugene and Irma Conner of Oyster Bay, N.Y., Jule and Barbara Conner of Marion, S.C., Arthur and Earnestine Conner of Patterson, N.J., Harry and Jacequlyn Conner of Alpharetta and Earnest and Brenda Conner of Marion, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Ethel W. Conner of Marion, S.C. and Gloria W. Brayboy of Atlanta; Godchildren, Leah C. Ivory of Augusta, Timothy S. Godbee, Gina P. Porter of Mableton, Orin W. Price of Atlanta and Robert W. Wilson of Augusta; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to St. Joseph's Hospice of Augusta or the Thankful Baptist Church Vision 2000 Fund. Friends may call at the residence.
