RUSKIN YEARGAIN

AGE: 39

HOMETOWN: Augusta

OCCUPATION: Musician, producer and freelance graphic artist

PLAYS: Bass and guitar.

STARTED PLAYING: Age 12. "My mom bought me an acoustic guitar for Christmas and I taught myself. I remember seeing ads for Elvis on TV when I was 7 or 8. If I had to do it over again, I'd probably take lessons. I play guitar, but I'm not a 'guitarist.'"

PLAYED WITH: Paradox, 1982; Impulse Ride, 1988 to present, Jar, 1996 to present.

FIRST CONCERT HE ATTENDED: "In 1980, I saw the Atlanta Rhythm section, Dixie Dregs and Mothers Finest at the Augusta Civic Center, but right after that was Van Halen. That was the one that made me want to get into a band. You hate to say it was a life-changing event, but in some sense, it was."

MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE: "We opened for the Goo Goo Dolls at Barton Field in 1999, in front of about 10,000 people. That's what you live for; its not playing in some chump bar."

IF HE COULD PLAY WITH ANY ARTIST: "I would say ZZ Top, but it would take away what I love about them. It would have to be Van Halen with David Lee Roth, when they were at the top of their game. Everything they did, to me, was perfect, and I'd love to see the process of making those songs, to feel the energy of them on stage."
