AIKEN - State and local law enforcement authorities were conducting a widespread manhunt last night for four prisoners who overpowered a jailer and bolted from Aiken County Jail.
Law enforcement agencies from four surrounding counties and three states were alerted by lawmen. The four men were apparently aided in their well-planned escape by a club fashioned from a broom handle and a "pistol" carved from a cake of soap.
