Mrs. Jessie Buford Hitt (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Jessie Buford Hitt, 97, entered into rest on Monday, October 5, 2004, at Kentwood Assisted Living Facility. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel, with the Dr. Jake Malone, Sr. officiating. Mrs. Hitt was born in Aiken County, S.C. on October 7, 1906. She is the widow of the late Otis H. Hitt. Mrs. Hitt was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta since 1925. She was also a member of the Rosemary Chapter Order of the Eastern Star for 60 years, a former legal secretary, employed by Atlanta Gas Light Co. for 23 years and several other self-owned businesses with her last employment as a Real Estate Broker. Mrs. Hitt is survived by her niece, Joan Buford Henley of Westport, Conn., two great nephews, Craig Burry of Westport, Conn. and Duane Burry of Concord, N.C. and two brothers-in-law, Ray C. Hitt and Malcolm Hitt both of North Augusta, S.C. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Augusta at 3500 Walton Way Augusta, Ga. 30909. The family will be receiving friends at Platt's Crawford Ave. from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Thursday, October 7, 2004.
