Mr. William Stevens, Jr. (AIKEN, S.C.)



AIKEN, S.C. - William Ross Stevens, Jr., 88, of Aiken, died September 21, 2004. Memorial services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be private. Mr. Stevens was born in Wilmington, Del. to the late William R. Stevens, Sr. and Mary Hanley Stevens. He had lived in Aiken since 12952. He was involved in the design, building and operation of the world's first Nylon Plant in Seaford, Del. He was also involved in the design and operation of the world's first heavy water plant in Hanford, Ind. and was also on the supervision team of the K-Reactor at SRP in 1952. He worked as a Chemical Engineer at E.I. DuPont, SRP. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his partner in later life, Marion Elizabeth "Betty" Nichols, Aiken; his three sons, William Ross Stevens III and Zora, Wilmington, Del., Henry Hutchinson Stevens and Beverly Briggs, Portland, Ore., Warren Alex Stevens and Joan, Oxford, Ga.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild, a sister, Jean Stevens Fuller, Wilmington, Del.; a stepdaughter, Diane Ennis, Snellville, Ga.; three stepsons, Robert E. Nichols II, Concord, Calif., Glenn Nichols, Beech Island, S.C., Kevin Nichols, Fort Dix, N.J.; he is also survived by his ex-wife, Katherine Virginia Stevens.
