Mr. Forest W. Connelly (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Forest William "Bill" Connelly, of Augusta, died peacefully at home on Monday, September 6, 2004, following a long illness. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 10, 2004, at 11 a.m., at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Varner officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors in Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry, S.C., at 2:30 p.m. Mr. Connelly was an active member of the St. Mark United Methodist Church of Augusta, the Masonic Lodge, the Order of Eastern Star, and the Hadji Shrine Temple. Mr. Connelly was born on December 21, 1928, to George Hugh Connelly and Martha Mann Connelly of Newberry. A native of Newberry he graduated from Newberry High School and joined the Navy at the age of seventeen. He married Dorothy Anne Wright, of Portsmouth, Va., in 1948. The couple had two children, Ellen Anne Connelly and Beverly Lynne Connelly. During his Naval career, he served as a radar and electronics tech nician with naval aviation at sea and on land. Duty stations abroad included Naples, Italy and Keflavik, Iceland. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer after twenty six years of service. He later served as an Instructor of Electronics at Pensacola Junior College, retiring from teaching after 10 years. His wife Anne died in 1976 from cancer. He married Paula Leigh Dennis of Montgomery, AL, in 1981. They have made their home in Augusta since 1990. He never met a stranger and treated everyone he met with respect and dignity. He often stopped to chat with a "stranger" only to leave a "friend" behind. He was beloved by many, walked in grace, and loved his Lord. Survivors include his beloved wife Paula Leigh Connelly; two daughters, Beverly Lynne Connelly of Cincinnati, Ohio and Ellen Anne Lathrom of Ava, Mo.; one son Richard B. Dennis of Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers, Hugh Hamilton (Katie) Connelly and George Thomas (Frances) Connelly both of Newberry; one sister, Thelma C. (John) Shaw of Saluda, S.C. and six grandchildren.
