RYAN ADAMS

WHEN: 8 p.m. Wednesday

WHERE: The Tabernacle, 152 Luckie St., Atlanta

COST: $26

KNOWN FOR: Being the poster child for alt-country crossover success

WHAT HE'S PUSHING: The album Love is Hell

TRIVIA: Although it became a sort of unofficial 9-11 anthem, the 2001 song New York, New York is actually about a broken romance and not the Big Apple.

He is a member of a mysterious supergroup with an unprintable moniker that features former Lemonhead Evan Dando, ex-Smashing Pumpkin guitarist James Iha and Hole and Pumpkins bass player Melissa Auf Der Maur. A previous performance at the Tabernacle featured a surprise appearance by Elton John on the song La Cienega Just Smiled. His current album was inspired by the sounds of the decidedly uncountry British band The Smiths and was produced by the band's long-time producer, John Porter.
