An Augusta mental health center is drawing some interest in its permanent CEO position on its third try at filling the post.
The board of Community Mental Health Center of East Central Georgia has gotten 31 applications and rsums for the position, search chairwoman Janis Hammar said.
The applications will be reviewed by the board's consultant, Baird & Co., and the search committee will take up the viable applications next week, she said.
Medical director Phil Horton has been serving as acting executive director since January 2003, when Mike Brockman was placed on administrative leave and subsequently fired during a state investigation.
Mr. Brockman was indicted in May on federal health care fraud charges, along with former state Rep. Robin Williams and others, and the men have pleaded innocent to the charges. The first two searches for CEO ended when the final candidates turned down the position, and Dr. Horton has said he would like to just be medical director and continue seeing patients.
