Three people were injured during an accident Tuesday evening at the intersection of Mike Padgett Highway and Goshen Industrial Boulevard, authorities said.
At about 6 p.m., a 1969 Chevrolet pickup driven by Robert Benefield, 64, of Augusta, tried to make a left turn onto Goshen and struck a 1999 Pontiac Firebird traveling northbound on Mike Padgett, said Richmond County sheriff's Deputy Bill Adams.
Northbound lanes on Mike Padgett were blocked until about 8:30 p.m. while the pickup, which was leaking gas, was removed, Deputy Adams said.
The Firebird was driven by Larry Kersey, 18, of the 5000 block of Westbrook Road, Augusta, police said.
A 14-year-old girl in the Firebird was treated for minor injuries, police said.
Mr. Benefield and Mr. Kersey were treated at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Deputy Adams said. The hospital's patient information representative did not return two pages seeking information on the conditions.
Mr. Kersey was charged with driving on a suspended license and Mr. Benefield was cited for failure to yield while turning left, Deputy Adams said. Both drivers had green lights before the accident occurred, he said.
