Mrs. Shirley Datka (WILMINGTON, N.C.)

WILMINGTON, N.C.-Mrs. Shirley Jean Fisher Datka, 67, of Dog Whistle Lane, Wilmington, died Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center. Mrs. Datka was born November 12, 1936 in Elwood, Indiana, the daughter of the late Glenn L. and Pauline Kaiser Fisher. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, a graduate of the Holy Cross Central School of Nursing in South Bend, Indiana and had retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta, Georgia as a Nurse Manager. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald J. Datka and a daughter, Karen M. Datka. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Elizabeth Cosby and husband, Zachary of Wilmington, Suzanne M. Datka of Clemmons, N.C., Catherine M. Powlas and husband, Glenn of Wilmington; her sons, Stephen James Datka of Wilmington, John W. Datka and wife, Teresa of Kingsville, Texas; two sisters, Marguerite Shaw of West Palm Beach, Florida, Rita Disher of Muncie , Indiana a nd eight grandchildren, James, Joshua, Matthew, Drew, Karen, Timothy, Stephen and John. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12, noon, Saturday, August 21, 2004 at St. Mark Catholic Church by Father Ed Burch. The interment will be in Oleander Memorial Gardens. A Rosary Service will be at 6:30 p.m., Friday, August 20, 2004 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Oleander Chapel and the family will receive friends following the Rosary Service from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare Center, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, N.C. 28401 or to St. Judes Children's Hospital, 332 N.
