"Hellboy," "The Devil's Backbone"
Guillermo del Toro's comic-book adaptation "Hellboy" arrives on DVD, along with a new edition of his horror tale "The Devil's Backbone." "Hellboy" stars Ron Perlman as a red-horned demon with a fist of stone who was co-opted in childhood to a life of fighting the forces of evil. The two-disc set has a mammoth 2 1/2 -hour making-of documentary, commentary by del Toro and comics creator Mike Mignola, and separate commentary with Perlman and co-stars Selma Blair, Jeffrey Tambor and Rupert Evans. Del Toro also offers commentary for a handful of deleted scenes, noting that some will be included in edited form later this year on an extended version of the movie that will add 50 minutes of footage. "Pennies From Heaven"
Dennis Potter's musical fantasy debuts in two versions, the original BBC miniseries starring Bob Hoskins and the 1981 movie adaptation with Steve Martin, Bernadette Peters and Christopher Walken. Potter's tale follows a Depression-era sheet-music salesman, his wife and mistress. They lip-synch their way through elaborate song-and-dance daydreams that underscore the bleak reality of their lives. The three-disc miniseries set includes commentary from director Piers Haggard and producer Kenith Trodd, while the movie version is accompanied by commentary from critic Peter Rainer and a 20th anniversary cast-and-crew reunion that features Martin. "Showgirls: V.I.P. Edition"
It's hard to fathom, but the notorious critical and commercial bomb from 1995 about a Vegas stripper turned showgirl has built up enough of a cult following to warrant this gag set that includes a new DVD version and a boxful of amusing props. The set has shot glasses and playing cards for "Showgirls" drinking games, photos of star Elizabeth Berkley, plus a Berkley poster, two pasties and a blindfold for a "pin-the-pasties-on-the-showgirl" game. The DVD includes a lap-dance tutorial from real strippers and commentary titled "The Greatest Movie Ever Made," a tongue-in-cheek appreciation by writer David Schmader. DVD set, $39.98. (MGM)
"Masques," "Story of Women," "La Ceremonie"
Two thrillers and a dark World War II drama from French filmmaker Claude Chabrol debut on DVD. "Masques," from 1987, stars Philippe Noiret as a TV game-show host with a sinister pastime. Isabelle Huppert stars in 1988's "Story of Women," the tale of a woman who performs abortions in Nazi-occupied France. The 1995 film "La Ceremonie" features Huppert, Jacqueline Bisset and Sandrine Bonnaire in a tale of murder and betrayal centered on a tug-of-war between two women over an illiterate maid. "Groucho Marx: You Bet Your Life - The Best Episodes" - A three-disc set contains 18 episodes of Groucho's game show filmed from 1950-61, with such guests as Johnny Weissmuller, Phyllis Diller, boxer Joe Louis and the host's brother, Harpo Marx. Extras include "stag" reels containing saucier moments edited from the show, plus three 1960s Groucho TV pilots. DVD set, $39.98. (Shout!)

"Sledge Hammer! Season One" - A cult favorite that aired for two seasons, this '80s cop spoof features David Rasche as a Dirty Harry-type detective blowing away street scum and anything else in his path. "Greendale" - Neil Young shot this Super-8mm feature film to accompany his CD and concert tour that tells the story of a small-town family's crises and sociopolitical awakening in contemporary America.
