Dallas quickly grabs up George

IRVING, Texas - Eddie George agreed to a contract with the Dallas Cowboys on Friday, just two days after being released by the Tennessee Titans.

"He's a great fit for us, and he will complement an offense that will be about power running," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said.

George signed a one-year deal that includes an immediate $1.5 million bonus, which was about what the Titans wanted to pay him for the entire season. Add in his base salary and easily reachable incentives and he could make upward of $4.5 million, more than he would have made under his previous deal with Tennessee.

"I see this team coming up on the rise," George said at a news conference introducing him. "There was a lot of places to look at, but I see that Dallas is committed to the run, and I think I can help with that."

ROBBINS RELEASED: Former Pro Bowl center Barret Robbins was released by the Oakland Raiders, a week after he and two other players were fined three game checks for testing positive for the steroid THG.

ROOKIE FINED: Safety Sean Taylor of the Washington Redskins has been fined $25,000 by the NFL for leaving the league's rookie symposium for a day.

The fine is the largest leveled on a rookie for missing the mandatory seminars.

The NFL did not announce the fine but a source within the league, who requested anonymity, confirmed to The Associated Press that it had been levied.

LIKE MIKE: Jon Gruden was half joking when he turned toward newly signed first-round pick Michael Clayton to finish answering a question about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' expectations for the talented rookie receiver.

"We think he's got a chance to be outstanding," the coach said Friday. "We'll be very, very disappointed if he's not - Mike."

"I'll be very disappointed if I'm not - coach," the former Louisiana State star said.

Marshall, who played at Miami, is the fourth of eight picks to sign. He signed a four-year deal.

ROSS FREE AGENT: The Cincinnati Bengals released linebacker Adrian Ross on Friday after six years with the team.

Signed as a free agent from Colorado State in 1998, Ross had played in 90 games with the Bengals, starting 34. Ross injured a knee against St. Louis on Dec. 21. He was placed on injured reserve before the team's final game.

PERRY JOINS EAGLES: Running back Bruce Perry has agreed to a four-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Perry, a Philadelphia native, was the Eagles' seventh-round pick in the 2004 draft.

He ranked fourth on the all-time rushing list at the University of Maryland, despite missing parts of two seasons to injuries. As a senior in 2003, he rushed for 713 yards and six touchdowns.
